Hello! Welcome to my new blog, The Archipelago of Words. New year, new blog. My fingers are itching with the future possibility of learning, growth, nerdery and all that I choose to place here.
Some of my goals with this blog are to have a spot on the web where I can exercise my writing chops. I want to write, post, explore, research and create. A brand-new blog seems the perfect vessel to begin this journey.
Some of my goals with this blog are to have a spot on the web where I can exercise my writing chops. I want to write, post, explore, research and create. A brand-new blog seems the perfect vessel to begin this journey.
My previous blog is not going anywhere, however I want a new start. I’ve been kicking around the idea of starting a new blog for a while and over the past month I have begun the steps of establishing what you see here.
Granted, this website is far from complete. There will be broken links, incomplete profiles and dead ends. All of that will be fixed and completed in time. At the moment, I have an email, a Tumblr and a Twitter and that is about it. Follow me, friend me, leave me messages if you like. A Facebook page and YouTube channel will be following in the months to come.
Like I said, new year, new blog. I’m really excited about this project! My goal for The Archipelago of Words is to post at least once a week—ideally between Thursday and Saturday of each week. That way, (written with every good intention) I can spend Sunday-Wednesday, thinking, researching, writing and editing. (Obviously, this post is an exception.) Starting in February, I’d like to start posting a video blog once a month to this website as well.
Exciting goals? Yes. Will I get tired of trying keep to them? Probably. Does that mean I’ll stop? I hope not.
Looking back at my other blog, which I have kept since 2005, I’ve come to realize that I’m not very excited about keeping it updated. It no longer fits the sort of outlet I want. (It is almost 8 years old, after all.) I'm not really proud of it anymore. As of late, the majority of my posts there tend to lean towards long rants about things that upset me. And while playing host to my frustrations is one of the purposes of that blog, (especially when I was in college) that is not what I plan for this one. That doesn’t mean that I’m going to totally stop posting there, but I want The Archipelago of Words to have a different feel. I want a blog that I can share with anyone and be proud of what I post.
Could I change my mind and break my own rules? Well, yes, I could, but I would rather try to post a well-worded argument with supporting facts and documentation about something that I find distressing, instead of typing something in all capital letters and going on about how upset I am.
The content that I am looking to write about here in The Archipelago of Words includes: Posts about some of my favorite fandoms, learning new things, books that I’m reading, movies and TV shows that I’ve seen, memories and stories from when I was little, pictures of my cat and my various cooking adventures. I also will probably post corny jokes, trivia factoids, board games, clever rhymes, memes, and theatre.
So really, anything could happen.
If you’ve read this far and haven’t stopped to look up what an “archipelago” is, the dictionary defines archipelago as: A cluster or group of islands. Derived from Greek through the Italian language, archipelago was first used as the proper name for the Aegean Sea and later the Aegean Islands. Now, archipelago is used to describe any island group.
Also, if you know me well enough, you know that I love pirates and sailing and all that stuff, so to me it also means the adventure of discovery using the eloquence of language. (Or at least trying to, anyway.)
If you don’t know me very well, there will be another glimpse intro my brain with next week’s post.
Happy New Year! Here’s to an exciting new project! Welcome to the Archipelago!
